As urban living continues to evolve and the demand for smarter, more efficient cities becomes critical, prioritizing the development of mobility-friendly networks is key to the long-term prosperity of these.

Why move commuter rail forward now?

It’s now or never. The tri-county area has been talking about commuter rail for decades and we are closer than ever to making it a reality.

Our region is growing, and additional transportation options are needed. By moving forward with commuter rail, jobs will be created, economic impact will be generated and mobility will be enhanced at a time of great need.

What are the benefits of the commuter rail initiative under consideration by Miami-Dade and Broward counties?

Fewer cars on the road, less gridlock and more time to do the things we all care about.

South Florida is one of the most congested areas in the United States, and residents spend hundreds of hours a year stuck in their cars due to traffic. Commuter rail offers a car-free option that is faster, cheaper and greener than sitting in traffic.

Economic Impact

Transportation and mobility are all about improving the functionality of cities. All of us have experienced the problem of traffic on our roads and highways. We are one of the most congested areas in the United States and South Floridians spend hundreds of hours a year stuck in their cars due to increasing traffic. Offering a car-free way to travel to key cultural and economic centers is something that has been called-for and well-studied for decades. A public transportation system such as this takes cars off the road, provides an eco-friendly way to move about South Florida and generates jobs and economic impact at a time of great crisis.

It is hard to find a project of this size and scope that can put residents to work. *The propsed system in Miami-Dade – which is similar to Broward – will generate the following economic benefits:

  • 1.45 million removed from roadways annually
  • 23,500+ non-recurring jobs created
  • 2,458+ permanent jobs created
  • $282 million in annual labor income
  • $5.5 million in annual revenue for Miami-Dade County
  • $7.2 million in annual revenue for Miami-Dade Public Schools
  • 3,644 metric tons of CO2 reduced annually
  • Increased real estate value in neighboring areas
Our partners are extremely important and help us accomplish our goals.
